Story
Hi!
In 2013 I ran a half marathon with Daniel by my side; in 2017 I ran another half marathon to prove to myself I could do this on my own.
Truth is… I can’t and haven’t done this on my own. Every step of my journey I’ve had people by my side and many more behind the scenes supporting me and cheering me on!
2022 and I am currently the most unfit I’ve ever been… I’ve pretty much forgotten what self-care is. My physical health has suffered and so to has my mental health. This year I’m participating in Bridge to Brisbane… providing motivation to get back out there and rack up the kms… something to hold me accountable in making my health a priority again, while raising funds for those who walk the young widowed path behind me.
First Light and the support of young widowed people, and grieving families is something I remain passionate about. I don’t ever want another young widowed person to feel as alone… isolated… or without hope as I did.
I’m honoured to witness first hand the impact First Light programs have… the way they improve mental and emotional health. Our community gives back wherever they can and supports those who come next, but we also need your help.

First Light Widowed Association Inc.
First Light Widowed Association is a national charity that connects young widowed people to resources, programs and an accepting, supportive and understanding community to support them through the overwhelming task of re-building their lives after the death of their partner.
Young widowhood can be incredibly isolating, lonely and confusing. For many, First Light provides the first opportunity to access resources and information, including our online and in-person support programs. These help to validate the complicated emotions and experiences of being widowed young, and give a sense of comfort and renewed hope, providing the strength and motivation needed to rebuild lives.
