Story
Support the Moving for Maxi Team for Hummingbird House
Receiving an unexpected medical diagnosis for your child, may be one of the worst days of your life. It is hard to imagine what lies ahead and how you will be able to help your child navigate the daily medical challenges.
In October 2023, my husband and I were told our son, Maxi, had Lissencephaly. This is a brain malformation that impacts all aspects of his life. He suffers multiple seizures daily and is completely reliant on us.
Hummingbird House has been an invaluable help to us. It is Queensland's only paediatric hospice and is a critical community resource for children with life-limiting diagnoses. It provides specialised care services, including stays at the House, receiving support from paediatric doctors, nurses and carers, accessing hydrotherapy, art therapy, physiotherapy as well as community support.
Palliative care is about enhancing the quality of life, not just end-of-life care. Our group, Moving for Maxi, is raising funds for this facility. We are proud to support the teams involved in providing these services, and to help ensure other families can be given the same assistance on their journey.

We are Qld's only Children's Hospice. We provide specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition, helping them make every moment precious when time is short. Hummingbird House supports hundreds of families from right across Queensland and strives to provide true choice about when, where and how they receive our care. Our vision is to be here for every eligible family that needs us.
