Support the Moving for Maxi Team for Hummingbird House
Receiving a medical diagnosis for your child can become one of the worst days of your life. It is hard to imagine how you will support your child navigate through daily medical challenges and the life that they will lead.
Resources like Hummingbird House are invaluable in helping parents manage complex medical needs. Hummingbird House is Queensland's only paediatric hospice and a critical community resource for children with life limiting diagnoses. They provide specialised paediatric palliative care services to children - this can look like stays at the house, receiving support from paediatric doctors, nurses and carers, accessing hydrotherapy, art therapy, physiotherapy as well as community support.
In 2023, my husband and I received the news that our son has Lissencephaly. A brain malformation that affects all aspects of his life. He is reliant on us for every element of life, and suffers multiple seizures a day.
This required us to reimagine our new life and learn all the medical requirements needed to support his needs. Hummingbird House has been invaluable for us on our journey. Our group, Moving for Maxi is raising funds for this facility. To ensure that other parents and children get the same support on their journey.
Palliative care is about enhancing quality of life for individuals and their families facing life-limiting illnesses, not just about end of life care. We are proud to support the teams involved in providing these services.

We are Qld's only Children's Hospice. We provide specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition, helping them make every moment precious when time is short. Hummingbird House supports hundreds of families from right across Queensland and strives to provide true choice about when, where and how they receive our care. Our vision is to be here for every eligible family that needs us.
